The Fort Bragg Timberwolves will head out to challenge the Lower Lake Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fort Bragg came out on top against Upper Lake on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Timberwolves blew past the Cougars 13-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Timberwolves as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Andrea Escobedo made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Escobedo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Silva, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Sierra Thompson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Lower Lake got themselves on the board against Kelseyville on Tuesday, but Kelseyville never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-0 win. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Like Fort Bragg, Lower Lake also got a great game from a two-way player: Mariah Bal. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Bal has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jamiya Lee-Ayers and Heidi Ortega did most of the damage at the plate: Lee-Ayers got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI, while Ortega went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Grace Reyes, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Fort Bragg's record is now 4-7. As for Lower Lake, their record now sits at 5-9.
Lower Lake's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fort Bragg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .435. It's a different story for Lower Lake, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Fort Bragg's hitters?
Fort Bragg came out on top in a nail-biter against Lower Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
