The Taft School Big Red will head out to take on the Choate Rosemary Hall School Wild Boars at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Taft School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Trinity-Pawling School hit Taft School with a six-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Big Red took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pride. The Big Red's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Taft School got a good showing from Uli Linn, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Linn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cooper Tantraporn was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Palmer, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Choate Rosemary Hall School entered their tilt with Loomis Chaffee School on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Pelicans. Eight seems to be a good number for the Wild Boars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Max Zajac, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Gianni Vora was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Choate Rosemary Hall School pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Taft School, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Both Taft School and Choate Rosemary Hall School just can't seem to miss. The Big Red have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Choate Rosemary Hall School struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taft School took their win against Choate Rosemary Hall School in their previous meeting on April 9th by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Big Red since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
