Corydon Central is 1-9 against Silver Creek since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Corydon Central Panthers will challenge the Silver Creek Dragons at 7:30 p.m. Corydon Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season.
Corydon Central had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 32-point drubbing they dealt Springs Valley on Thursday. Corydon Central blew past Springs Valley, posting an 81-49 victory. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 366th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jack Fessel was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-9 on his way to 17 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was T-Mac Wilkinson, who posted four points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Corydon Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Silver Creek can now relate to. They fell just short of the Owls by a score of 57-54 on Friday. The Dragons' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Corydon Central will need to focus on slowing down Brandon Hunter, one of several Silver Creek players who made an impact when they last played. He put up 12 points and seven assists. Hunter is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Dane Caldwell was another key player, shooting 71% from the field en route to 12 points and eight boards.
Corydon Central is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points over those games. Silver Creek's loss dropped their record down to 20-4.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Corydon Central has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.5% of their three-pointers per game. However, it's not like Silver Creek struggles in that department as they've made 47.9% of their three-pointers this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Corydon Central was dealt a bruising 65-32 defeat at the hands of Silver Creek in their previous meeting last Friday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Silver Creek's Dane Sprigler, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 18 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Now that Corydon Central knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
