Colville had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it five. They fell 9-5 to the Lakeside Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on Saturday.
Colville got a good showing from Gunnar Baker, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Ethan Redberg was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Luke Bateman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Lakeside, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games.
On Lakeside's side, Cy Reeves made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Reeves also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lakeside is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Reeves was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kannon Almond was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Lakeside's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Clayton Pavlin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
While Colville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
