Baseball Recap: Nova Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Flanagan, Nova was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Somerset Academy Panthers by a score of 11-6. Considering the Titans' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ayden Paredes made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nova is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise. Paredes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Nova got a massive performance out of Cole Boisvert, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Boisvert a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allan Cruz, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Nova kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Nova's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Somerset Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

Nova and Somerset Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Titans will square off against Dr. Krop at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lightning have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.7 runs per game on average), something Nova will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Somerset Academy, they will face off against Mater Lakes Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
