It was a good run, but the McKeel Academy Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Santa Fe Catholic by a score of 65-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Tuesday (59), McKeel Academy still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why McKeel Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alex Sessoms. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Sessoms scored a full 40.3% of McKeel Academy's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Jonsson, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Santa Fe Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tate Darner led the charge by scoring 26 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Dykhuizen, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds.
McKeel Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-1. As for Santa Fe Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
McKeel Academy will take on Circle Christian in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Santa Fe Catholic will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Andrew Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Andrew Jackson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Santa Fe Catholic is ranked 11th).
