University Prep and West Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Panthers will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While University Prep's victory against Central Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Falcons 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Rylynn Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks.
On the hitting side, University Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Petty, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, while West Valley put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Central Valley. The Eagles put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubree Wertz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Kelsey Roble and Addy Taylor did most of the damage at the plate: Roble went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Taylor went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two RBI gave Roble a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cadynce Gippner, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
West Valley's win bumped their record up to 21-1. As for University Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
West Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. University Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for West Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will University Prep keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
University Prep got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against West Valley by a conclusive 15-5 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
