The Muncy Indians waltzed into their game on Saturday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They took down East Juniata 55-38. Given Muncy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while East Juniata is ranked 685th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Patrick Zalonis was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Wrett Smith, who scored 20 points. Clark Ritzman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Muncy is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for East Juniata, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Muncy will square off against South Williamsport at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Muncy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 445 points over their last seven matchups. East Juniata's road trip will continue as they head out to face Harrisburg Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Harrisburg Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
