The Lanier Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Greene County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanier will be strutting in after a victory while Greene County will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Lanier strolled past Wingfield with points to spare, taking the game 56-42. Given Lanier's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Wingfield is ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Greene County took a serious blow against Pass Christian on Friday, falling 63-26. Greene County has not had much luck with Pass Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Greene County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tylan Blackston, who scored six points along with four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Blackston has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cordarius Molten, who scored nine points.
Greene County was without their leading scorer, Yabarrai Bolton, in Friday's match. With Bolton sitting this one out, Javon Watts got some extra time on the court (22 vs. his season average of 9.53).
Lanier's win bumped their record up to 11-15. As for Greene County, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Everything came up roses for Lanier against Greene County in their previous meeting back in February of 2021 as the squad secured a 90-37 win. Will Lanier repeat their success, or does Greene County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
