James F. Byrnes and Gaffney are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2018, but not for long. The Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, James F. Byrnes strolled past Riverside with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. Given the Rebels' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Warriors are ranked 64th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tre Segarra
10/03/25 @ Riverside | 169 |
09/12/25 @ Greer | 145 |
11/01/24 @ Boiling Springs | 142 |
08/22/25 vs T.L. Hanna | 134 |
08/29/25 vs Irmo | 120 |
Tre Segarra was his usual excellent self, rushing for 169 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Those 169 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jackson Buckley was in the mix too, providing James F. Byrnes with two TDs.
Another reason for the win was James F. Byrnes' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. Kelshard Harris was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 12 total tackles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gaffney). They snuck past Eastside with a 40-35 victory on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Indians sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
James F. Byrnes better focus on containing Josiah Hill and Banks Bouton as the pair were huge in Gaffney's win. Hill rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, while Bouton rushed for 104 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Bouton is becoming a predictor of Gaffney's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
James F. Byrnes' record is now 4-2. As for Gaffney, their record now sits at an identical 4-2.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Segarra and Hill. Segarra just won't slow down this season and has run in 10 touchdowns while averaging 115.8 rushing yards per game. Hill has been a dominant force too and has run in 9 touchdowns while averaging 68.2 rushing yards per game.
James F. Byrnes came up short against Gaffney in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 15-9. Can the Rebels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
