Baseball Recap: Haxtun's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Haxtun dropped their record down to 11-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Akron Rams, falling 13-3. The Fightin' Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Haxtun saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Larsen, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

As for Akron, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games.

On Akron's side, Jax Kusel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Kusel has posted over his last four matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Akron let Caleb Poss and Kolten Randel run wild. Poss got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Randel went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Randel a new career-high. Tucker Stahn was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Haxtun is taking a road trip to face off against Wiggins at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
