Nixon is 3-0 against the Huskies since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Nixon Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Juarez-Lincoln Huskies at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nixon has 11 straight victories, the Huskies have eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Nixon blew past the Patriots, posting a 90-43 victory on the road. Given Nixon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Patriots are ranked 1194th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nixon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Vela, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Escobar, who scored 20 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 79-42, which was the final score in Juarez-Lincoln's tilt against the Lobos on Tuesday.
Nixon's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-9. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for Juarez-Lincoln, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 22 of their last 23 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-29 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Nixon against the Huskies when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 94-18 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nixon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
