Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Dy'nzah Alexander and Tailor Coles Lead Heritage to Victory

Heritage hadn't done well against Appomattox County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Heritage Pioneers narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Appomattox County Raiders 37-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since November 27, 2023.

Leading Heritage to victory were Tailor Coles and Dy'Nzah Alexander. Coles dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, while Alexander dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Alexander is now averaging an impressive 8.7 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Marissa Allen, who posted six points.

Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

With the victory, Heritage broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7. As for Appomattox County, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Heritage will be playing in front of their home fans against Amherst County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Appomattox County, they will venture away from home to face off against Nelson County at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th.
