Maya Hernandez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaitlyn Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Cailynn Ruzick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Humble never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Channelview on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 21-2 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Natalie Garcia made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Garcia was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Ava Suarez was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Wilkinson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Atascocita's defeat dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Humble, their win ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-19.
Humble's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Atascocita hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .425. It's a different story for Humble, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Atascocita's hitters?
Everything went Atascocita's way against Humble when the teams last played back in March, as Atascocita made off with a 19-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
