Lakota has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Danbury Lakers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakota will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Danbury is ranked 104th).
Lakota proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 29) but on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Woodmore 41-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Lakota has posted yet this season.
Meanwhile, Danbury didn't have too much trouble with Hopewell-Loudon on the road on Saturday as they won 35-17.
Danbury relied on the efforts of Maria Maringer, who scored ten points along with three steals, and Maci Brown, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals. Maringer is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michaela Harris, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Lakota's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Danbury's record is now 12-1.
Lakota came up short against Danbury when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 41-29. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Maringer, who scored 22 points along with two steals. Now that Lakota knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
