After flying high against Forsyth Home Educators on Friday, Phoenix Academy came back down to earth. The Firebirds fell 3-1 to the Clover Garden School Grizzlies on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in August.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 13-25, 25-8, 25-18.
Kris'Chelle Powe paced Phoenix Academy's offense, picking up five kills. Powe were helped by Destiny Kinsey and Callie You, who contributed five assists each. Kinsey was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
Clover Garden School had a senior duo take command as Nikole Weed had nine digs and seven aces and Hanna Tickle had five digs and one block. Tickle is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 20 or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Emma Sutton also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.
Phoenix Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Clover Garden School, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-6.
Phoenix Academy has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Triad Math and Science Academy on the 7th. Clover Garden School does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
