Video: Xcellent 25 Football Rankings See who was the only new team joins this week's Top 25. See the video above for a complete breakdown of this week's Xcellent 25 high school football rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Here's a look at developments that shaped this week's Top 25:
• No. 1
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) left no doubt it is the best high school football team in the country. The Monarchs rolled past
De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 52-21 to claim the school's first CIF state title.
JT Daniels had another big night accounting for four touchdowns and
Amon-Ra St. Brown hauled in eight receptions for 137 yards and two scores. Maybe the most impressive stat all season is that the Monarchs never trailed at any point this season and the win all but ensures them the 2017 national championship.
•
Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) was the biggest mover in this week's Top 25 after handing
Katy (Texas) its only loss of the year. The defending 6A-D1 UIL Texas state champs will try for the school's seventh state title against No. 4
Allen (Texas) on Dec. 23.
The only new team in this week's Xcellent 25 is the Georgia Class 7A state champs -
North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.). The BUlldogs beat
Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.) 19-17 to claim the school's first state championship.
Cameron Clark nailed a 38-yard field goal as time expired.
Mater Dei and coach Bruce Rollinson finally won the school's first CIF state football championship.
