Boardman (Youngstown, Ohio) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat
Perry (Massillon, Ohio), 42-17, on Saturday.
The Spartans were up 28-10 at the half after taking the lead on a
Isaiah Lyle touchdown run in the first quarter.
Boardman expanded its lead to 32 points entering the fourth quarter. BHS scored two times in the third, including once on a kick return touchdown by
Turel Thompson.
Lyle played well for the Youngstown school in the victory. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns.
Coming into the game the Spartans had allowed 30.0 points per game this year.
When the two teams played each other last season, Boardman came away with a 40-2 victory.
The loss comes after Perry defeated Hoover 56-48 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for BHS, which was coming off a 52-7 defeat at the hands of Austintown-Fitch in its previous game.
Boardman (4-2) will play a Federal game against Hoover next week, while Perry (3-3) will take on Lake also in a Federal game.
