Scottsdale Preparatory Academy hasn't had much luck against Fountain Hills recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Spartans will challenge the Falcons at 3:45 p.m.
On Thursday, Scottsdale Preparatory Academy came up short against Scottsdale Christian Academy and fell 4-1.
Sehaj Malhi was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Malhi was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Malhi wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ben Bubar, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Fountain Hills waltzed into their game on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Cougars as they made off with a 9-1 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Fountain Hills also got a great performance from JJ Pena as he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Pena has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Griffin Bos, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Sam Barnard was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Fountain Hills pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy came up short against Fountain Hills when the teams last played on April 4th, falling 6-2. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
