Basketball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Auburn Mountainview

Auburn Mountainview's game on Saturday was all tied up 33-33 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 68-56 victory over the Rogers Rams. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Rams are ranked 120th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Auburn Mountainview to victory were Kolven Posey and Sudan Luok. Posey went 7 for 16 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists, while Luok dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 boards. With that strong performance, Luok is now averaging an impressive 8.4 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Arius, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Auburn Mountainview smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Rogers' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Gilderhus, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points. That's the most points Gilderhus has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Treyshawn Weatherspoon, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Auburn Mountainview pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Rogers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Auburn Mountainview will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Federal Way at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburn Mountainview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 78.6 points per game this season. As for Rogers, they will head out to square off against South Kitsap at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rogers is facing South Kitsap at the right time seeing as South Kitsap is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
