Yuma has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Tuesday. They will square off against the Kofa Kings at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Yuma focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Yuma really took it to San Luis for the full four quarters, racking up a 73-33 victory at home. Given Yuma's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while San Luis is ranked 284th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andrew Mosqueda was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Mosqueda is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Nick Amador was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 10 assists.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Kofa's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 79-41 loss at the hands of Willow Canyon.
Kofa's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayven Wynn, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds, and Calvin Barber who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Barber's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Luis Negrete, who scored 7 points.
Yuma's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Kofa, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Yuma hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 63.5 points per game. It's a different story for Kofa, though, as they've been averaging only 51.2 per game. The only thing between Yuma and another offensive beatdown is Kofa. Will they be able to keep them contained? Yuma and Kofa were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in January, but Yuma came up empty-handed after a 37-36 defeat. Can Yuma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
