Rich Township is 1-9 against Thornwood since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Raptors are taking a road trip to take on the Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. Rich Township is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Rich Township made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Argo, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Raptors fell just short of the Argonauts by a score of 5-3 on Saturday.
Rich Township got a good showing from Maurice Pinkney, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Pinkney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rich Township saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Thornwood suffered their closest defeat since May 3, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Morgan Park by a score of 6-4. The loss continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost three in a row.
Daniel Diaz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Amira Hondras, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Rich Township's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Thornwood, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Rich Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thornwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Rich Township came up short against Thornwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can the Raptors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
