Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Mallard Creek Mavericks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Watauga. Mallard Creek's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
It was another big night for Maddox Greene, who rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Greene is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Mallard Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Watauga, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Mallard Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Watauga will be playing at home against Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Independence is ranked tenth, while Watauga is ranked 13th).
