The result was nothing new for Fort Collins, who have now won five contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
Fort Collins was led to victory by Avery Alcaraz and Claire Wagstaff. Alcaraz scored 20 points along with five rebounds, while Wagstaff scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. The match was Alcaraz's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhya Cano, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Grand Junction Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brynn Wagner, who scored 17 points. The game was Wagner's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Emma Diaz was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Grand Junction Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fort Collins pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Fort Collins and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Grand Junction Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Fort Collins will play host again and welcome Erie, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.3 points per game. Grand Junction Central will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Douglas County at 12:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Douglas County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
