The Antioch Sequoits waltzed into Friday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 50-40 win over Lakes. Given Antioch's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Lakes is ranked 412th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Antioch found their leader in underclassman Heidi Rathmann, who scored 15 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Rathmann has scored at least 25% of Antioch's points. Macie Volkmar was another key contributor, scoring 8 points.
Lakes' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Janae Pullen, who scored 9 points. Pullen continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Inclarity Turney, who scored 7 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Antioch's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Lakes, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Antioch will take on North Chicago at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Chicago is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Lakes, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Mundelein at 5:30 p.m.
