Vancleave is 1-9 against East Central since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Vancleave is taking a road trip to face off against East Central at 6:30 p.m. Vancleave is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Vancleave and Stone had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Vancleave fell 7-4 to Stone on Thursday.
Brooklyn Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Vancleave saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brenley Hunter, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Even though they lost, Vancleave hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, East Central came tearing into Thursday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gators an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Abby Danis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Danis was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since March 1st.
In other batting news, Kailee Lawson was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzy Kennedy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
East Central's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Vancleave, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.
Vancleave suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to East Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Vancleave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
