Belfry proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Man Hillbillies. The four-run effort marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Dante Davis and Chase Varney made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Davis struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Varney tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. At bat, Davis went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Varney scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bryce Hagy was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
The victory was the third in a row for Belfry, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Man, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belfry will be taking part in a tournament against West at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Man, they will square off against Tolsia at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
