Western Harnett is a perfect 4-0 against Pinecrest since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will head out to challenge the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Western Harnett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Western Harnett challenged Triton on Tuesday. The Eagles fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 8-7. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Faith Woodard made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Those home runs marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest hadn't done well against Jack Britt recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Patriots came out on top in a nail-biter against the Buccaneers, sneaking past 6-5. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Leah Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaiya Todd was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Lily Hensley, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one double.
Western Harnett's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Pinecrest, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Western Harnett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pinecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Western Harnett came out on top in a nail-biter against Pinecrest in their previous meeting on March 9th, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
