Softball Recap: Sunset Park Wins Going Away Against Mckee Vo-Tech

Sunset Park hadn't done well against McKee Vo-Tech recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The HEAT were the clear victors by a 14-8 margin over the Seagulls. The result was nothing new for the HEAT, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Angela Tapia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Sunset Park let Ransely Rodriguez and Analia Perez run wild. Rodriguez went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Perez went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Perez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Ashley Espinal Rodriguez, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Sunset Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Sunset Park's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.3 runs over those games. As for McKee Vo-Tech, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-2 record.

Sunset Park and McKee Vo-Tech should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The HEAT will face off against CSI International Studies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (60 vs. 236). Meanwhile, McKee Vo-Tech (ranked 38th) will meet Brooklyn Studio (ranked 290th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
