Western Christian got a great performance from Jackson Thompson as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Thompson a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on James Mack, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Stradley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Western Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Claremont waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Brahmas a 6-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Wyatt Green's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ramzey Farah was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Claremont's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-0-1 (and 8-12 when he doesn't). Luke Porras was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Claremont now has a winning record of 13-12-1. As for Western Christian, their record now sits at 9-11.
Western Christian suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Claremont in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Can the Fighting Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
