Basketball Recap: Cortland Piles Up the Points Against Mcgraw

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cortland). Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 72-29 stomp they got against the McGraw Eagles. With the Purple Tigers ahead 39-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Cortland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zach Muir led the charge by putting up 13 points. The dominant performance also gave Muir a new career-high in assists (three). Owen Johnson was another key player, posting 11 points and six rebounds.

Cortland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Cortland's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for McGraw, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Cortland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-37 win against Homer on the 28th. As for McGraw, they will challenge Copenhagen at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
