Ironwood Ridge (Tucson, Ariz.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 21 in Arizona, but was stunned by
Mountain View (Tucson, Ariz.), 14-7. Mountain View was ranked at No. 36 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Arizona coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Richie Estrada touchdown run in the second quarter, the Mountain Lions led 14-0 at the half.
Mountain View was ahead by as much as 14 before the Nighthawks pulled closer.
Ironwood Ridge's only touchdown came on a pass in the fourth quarter.
Coming into the game MV had allowed 22.3 points per game this year. The Mountain Lions held firm on the defensive front, and kept Ironwood Ridge well below the 36.3 points it had been averaging per game.
Ironwood Ridge (5-3) will play a II Section V game against Salpointe Catholic next week, while Mountain View (5-3) will take on Tucson High Magnet School also in a II Section V game.
