McCutcheon has gone 9-1 against Kokomo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mavericks will head out on the road to take on the Wildkats at 6:00 p.m. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
McCutcheon's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Saturday, when they got past Rossville's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 12-1 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mavericks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Jake Winger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mekyel Almond, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
McCutcheon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rossville struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Kokomo waltzed into their game on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Red Devils get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Isaac Flamino's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kokomo saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Dockemeyer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Kokomo's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, their record now sits at 3-5.
Kokomo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McCutcheon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Kokomo, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain McCutcheon's hitters?
Everything went McCutcheon's way against Kokomo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as McCutcheon made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
