Indio is 8-2 against Banning since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Indio Rajahs will be playing at home against the Banning Broncos at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Indio scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Cathedral City on the road to the tune of 106-27. Indio has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 25 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Jayden Gonzalez, who scored 29 points. He hasn't dropped below 15points for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Perkins, who scored 20 points.
Banning suffered their biggest defeat since December 18, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 83-58 loss at the hands of Twentynine Palms. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Banning in their matchups with Twentynine Palms: they've now lost six in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Noah Aguilar, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chase Sanchez, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
The win was the fifth in a row for Indio, bringing their record for this year to 15-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.6 points per game. As for Banning, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Indio and Banning are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Indio hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 71.3 points per game. However, it's not like Banning struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 52.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Indio against Banning in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 80-35 victory. Does Indio have another victory up their sleeve, or will Banning turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
