The Montgomery Bears were the 49-35 winner over the Magnolia West Mustangs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Montgomery took a 54-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Magnolia West on Tuesday.
Montgomery lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Savannah Piro, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Piro scored a full 26.2% of Montgomery's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Keelie Henneke, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Montgomery's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Magnolia West, they pushed their record up to 16-9 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Montgomery will take on Brenham at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Magnolia West, they will head out on the road to face off against College Station at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. College Station will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 618th, while Magnolia West is ranked 224th).
