In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. Among the games was a one-point thriller between North Kansas City and Fort Osage.
Welcome
Lathrop has been an offensive powerhouse for four straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It put the hurt on Penney with a conclusive 78 - 6 victory. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected Lathrop as the clear winner. Thanks to its success, Lathrop cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 23rd spot.
Can't Touch This
Aquinas got a 49 - 14 win over Blue Valley Northwest last week, and a key reason for the win was sophomore Tyron "Tank" Young. Young earned four touchdowns and 228 yards rushing the ball. That performance made Young one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for North Kansas City this week as the team hoisted itself up 16 places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by Fort Osage 19 - 18. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for North Kansas City after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Staley (4th in the power rankings) and Lee's Summit West (2nd). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Staley and Lee's Summit West can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
