V Section II recap Oct. 9, 2012
Tonopah Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 12th to 10th in V Section II. The Phoenix beat Wickenburg 27-21 earlier in the week.
Northwest Christian extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Arizona Lutheran Academy, 66-28. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Crusaders.
Semone Brown was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 173 yards as San Tan Foothills lost to Phoenix Christian. Ricky Wilson also contributed to the rushing game with 121 yards on the ground.
Andrew Otting-Crandall made the biggest impact on defense this week as Tempe Prep beat Camp Verde. The 5-foot-10 junior recorded two fumbles.
Wolf was the best wideout in V Section II this week as the Trojans fell to the Cougars. Wolf tallied three receptions for 67 yards. Spencer Richardson helped Valley Christian's passing attack out by catching three balls for 55 yards.
Kyle Shipp put up the best numbers through the air as Northwest Christian topped the Coyotes. He finished with a total of five completions for 162 yards and one touchdown. Shipp's favorite target this week was Trevor Osborne, who caught one pass for 63 yards.
On the ground, Arizona Lutheran Academy's Alfred Erives has rushed for 1259 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Osborne. The Northwest Christian star has 23 catches for 491 yards.
Next week's game between Phoenix Christian and Scottsdale Christian Academy will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as John Debus tests his arm against Christian Tyler's defensive ability. For the year, Brandon Harris' team's Debus has managed 1263 yards and 13 touchdowns, while Tyler has three interceptions for the Eagles.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Scottsdale Christian Academy takes on the Cougars. As it stands, Willie Dudley's team is in fourth, while Phoenix Christian is in third.
