Basketball Recap: Bear Creek Comes Up Short

Bear Creek came up into this matchup off a tough 82-point defeat last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Lakewood Tigers by a score of 38-36 on Saturday. The Bears just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.

Defeat or not, Bear Creek got some senior leadership from Rachel Vasey and Olivia Kan. Vasey posted five points in addition to nine rebounds, eight assists, and seven blocks, while Kan had 16 points and seven boards. Those eight assists gave Vasey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Anderson, who scored ten points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Bear Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Lakewood was led to victory by Caroline Bane and DJ Parrish. Bane almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds, while Parrish earned 17 points. Parrish is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Iben Last was another key player, putting up nine points along with six boards and three blocks.

Bear Creek's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Lakewood, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 5-11 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bear Creek has already played their next game (against Ralston Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lakewood will welcome Dakota Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lakewood is facing Dakota Ridge at the right time seeing as Dakota Ridge is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
