The Meadowdale Mavericks are taking a road trip to face off against the Shorecrest Scots at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meadowdale is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
If Meadowdale beats Shorecrest with five runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mavericks walked away with a 5-1 victory over Kamiak on Monday.
Meadowdale secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Caleb Braithwaite, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That's the most hits Braithwaite has posted since back in March. Aaron Hurlbut also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Shorecrest hadn't done well against Mountlake Terrace recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Scots came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
David Telling made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elyas Rojas, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Shorecrest has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Meadowdale, their record now sits at 6-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Meadowdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Shorecrest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Meadowdale couldn't quite finish off Shorecrest in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
