The Gering Bulldogs were the 48-29 winner over the Bridgeport Bulldogs when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. Gering was the victim of a tough 70-44 loss at the hands of Bridgeport on Tuesday. Gering was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-15.
Jacelyn Brown and Neveah Hrasky certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Brown scored nine points along with six assists and three steals, while Hrasky scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Todd, who scored seven points.
Olivia Loomis-goltl was on fire for Bridgeport: she scored 32 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Loomis-goltl's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tacey From, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.
Gering's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-1. As for Bridgeport, the victory was the fourth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gering will face off against Chadron on Saturday. Hopefully Chadron focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday. As for Bridgeport, they will head out on the road to face off against Hemingford on Friday. Hemingford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Bridgeport is ranked tenth).
