Jupiter Christian heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Friday. They came up short against Brito, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
For Brito's part, Robert Ross tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Ross has posted since back in February.
At the plate, Brito got a big performance out of Bryan Gonzalez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The Panthers are undefeated when Gonzalez posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Raivon Pinder, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Brito always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jupiter Christian only posted an OBP of .364.
Brito pushed their record up to 9-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Jupiter Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
Brito's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Jupiter Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brito, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Jupiter Christian keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
