Caledonia is a perfect 3-0 against La Crescent since May of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will welcome the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Caledonia 1.6, La Crescent 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Caledonia is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Randolph, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Caledonia was ranked 13th). The Warriors fell 6-2 to the Rockets on Friday.
Caledonia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elsa Blum, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, La Crescent had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past the Trojans 14-6. Considering the Lancers have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Maleah Moldenhauer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, La Crescent let Addie Murilla and Lexi Kiesau run wild. Murilla went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Kiesau went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Kiesau a new career-high. Nadia Woodard was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
La Crescent pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Caledonia, their defeat ended a 17-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Caledonia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like La Crescent struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Caledonia was able to grind out a solid win over La Crescent in their previous matchup back in April, winning 5-0. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
