The Coal Ridge Titans were the 42-41 winner over the Aspen Skiers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Coal Ridge ended up on the wrong side of a rough 61-39 walloping at the hands of Aspen on Friday. While losing is never fun, Coal Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while Aspen is ranked 30th).
Loss or not, Coal Ridge got some senior leadership from Lochlan Wade and Clay Cornejo. Wade scored 12 points, while Cornejo. scored eight points.
Tommy Franceschi continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Aspen, scoring 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristo Klavins, who scored eight points.
Coal Ridge's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8. As for Aspen, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coal Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Steamboat Springs at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Jeffrey Sturges and Ben Simons. As for Aspen, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Basalt at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th.
