Oscar Roig made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Henry Zupanc, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kolton Johnson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Quaker Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Ellwood City made easy work of Sto-Rox on Friday and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverine.
Jordan Keller was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Gino Biondi was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Quaker Valley's record is now 8-2-1. As for Ellwood City, their record now sits at 7-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Quaker Valley hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ellwood City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Quaker Valley couldn't quite get it done against Ellwood City in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Quakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
