If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Independence. They hope to keep the momentum going despite having enjoyed some extra time before their next match against Tehachapi at 7:30 PM on Friday. Independence don't have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.
After having lost a blowout in their matchup three weeks ago against Stockdale, Independence were happy to find some success two weeks ago. Independence walked away with a 33-24 victory over Frontier. Senior Sergio Borreli, who passed for 195 yards and 4 touchdowns, was a major factor in Independence's success.
Meanwhile, we expected Tehachapi to have trouble with the significantly higher ranked Garces Memorial, and they did. Tehachapi found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 7-35 punch to the gut against Garces Memorial. Tehachapi were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-21.
The last time the two teams met, Independence won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Tehachapi 14-13.
