Yorba Linda is 0-10 against Canyon since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Yorba Linda Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Canyon Comanches at 7:00 p.m. Yorba Linda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Canyon is ranked 38th).
After a string of three wins, Yorba Linda's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a tough 70-47 loss at the hands of Foothill. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for a single point.
Meanwhile, Canyon came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 54-50 W over Villa Park.
Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Goodall led the charge by scoring 20 points along with six rebounds. Goodall has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Staf Yilmazturk, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Yorba Linda's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Canyon, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.
Yorba Linda was dealt a bruising 67-35 defeat at the hands of Canyon in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Yorba Linda avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
