Wisconsin Flyway recap October 22, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Wisconsin Flyway this week, St. Mary's Springs beat Winnebago Lutheran Academy 49-7. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Mayville lost to Laconia 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adam Smith ran for 104 yards in the loss.
The Spartans' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Vollmer threw for 63 and 3 touchdowns and Brett Wittchow had 63 yards receiving. On the ground Levin Vande Berg chipped in 187 yards.
Vande Berg provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Laconia beat Mayville. Vande Berg's favorite target this week was Wittchow, who caught 4 passes for 63 yards.
He was 4-6 with 0 interceptions.
Vande Berg was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on 18 carries as Mark Madigan's team defeated Jason Harder's team. Eli Moses also contributed to the rushing game with 62 yards on the ground.
Laconia's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Spartans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Vollmer has thrown for 907 yards and 9 touchdowns this season, while Wittchow has 19 catches for 403 yards.
Horace Mann made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,892 from 10,114. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-26 victory over Kettle Moraine Lutheran last week.
