Softball Game Preview: Gunn Titans vs. Silver Creek Raiders

The Gunn Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Silver Creek Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Gunn's victory against Fremont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Gunn came out on top in a nail-biter against Fremont on Friday, sneaking past 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Alex Denoel made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tess Bogart, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

While Silver Creek didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Pioneer with a sharp 16-6 win on Friday. Considering the Raiders have won four matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Silver Creek pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Gunn, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Gunn took their win against Silver Creek when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gunn since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
