After both having extra time off, the Oostburg Flying Dutchmen and the University School of Milwaukee Wildcats will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Oostburg has three straight wins, University School of Milwaukee has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Thursday, Oostburg got the win against Northeastern Wisconsin Lutheran/Providence Academy by a conclusive 3-0.
The final score came out to 25-7, 25-13, 25-18.
Oostburg found their leader in sophomore Kwinn McGranahan, who had 11 digs and two aces.
Oostburg was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, University School of Milwaukee came up short against Living Word Lutheran on Friday and fell 2-0.
The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-20.
University School of Milwaukee's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Oostburg, their victory bumped their record up to 22-13.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Oostburg has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.7 aces per game. However, it's not like University School of Milwaukee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Oostburg couldn't quite get it done against University School of Milwaukee in their previous matchup back in August of 2019 as they fell 2-0. Can the Flying Dutchmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
