The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles won the last time they faced the Murray Spartans, and things went their way on Thursday too. Maple Mountain came out on top against Murray by a score of 51-44. Given Maple Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Murray is ranked 89th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maple Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylee Gause, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Gause set a new season high mark in steals with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Lainhart, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mia Auclaire, who scored 21 points along with three blocks. The match was Auclaire's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Anaafi, who scored nine points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Maple Mountain and bumps their season record up to 6-1. As for Murray, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will take on Pleasant Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Grove has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Murray won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Taylorsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
